The Space

The Grand Palm is nestled within the highly coveted Cannonborough neighborhood, which is just a short walk from King street and offers a nice selection of bars, restaurants, and shops along the way. Make The Grand Palm your home base for a family vacation, group retreat, or a fun getaway with friends! Upon arrival, you will find a lot with three off street parking spaces directly behind the home, which makes packing and unpacking a breeze. Once inside, you are welcomed by an open foyer that portrays an eccentric black and white mural on the right wall. To the left, there is a large living area complete with two soft leather sofas, a TV, and plenty of extra seating. It’s the perfect place for morning coffee or a post-dinner nightcap! You and your guests can also enjoy the main floor dining room which is located just a few steps down the hall and offers seating for 6 and a large TV. The dining room also provides direct access to the kitchen, which is fully equipped for your convenience and boasts ample counter space as well as bar seating for 5 guests. The main house includes 6 bedrooms, all of which feature top notch bed linens, hotel quality bath amenities, and easy access to one of 5 porch areas surrounding the home. The master suite is simply sublime and includes a king bed, ceiling fan, direct porch access, and a large bathroom with dual vanities, a spacious shower, and a garden bathtub. Each additional bedroom on the main floors of the home includes a TV, clothing storage, and unique design details like original brick fireplaces, french doors, and more. The painted staircase on the second floor of the home leads to a loft-like third floor space perfect for kids or those who wish to have a bit more privacy during their stay. This open concept space features two full size beds as well as a daybed, sofa, and coffee table. Directly behind the house sits a modern Charleston carriage house. This 2 bedroom/ 1 bathroom cottage is delightfully cozy and the perfect size for 2 to 3 guests. The carriage house features an open floorplan in the main area, which opens up the space and provides a light-filled area where guests can enjoy the kitchen, living area, and TV. The first floor also includes one bedroom with a queen size bed, TV, ceiling fan, and dresser. The shared bathroom is also located on the main floor of the carriage house. A spiral staircase leads to the second bedroom, which includes double doors, a ceiling fan, a TV, and a small closet for storage. Perhaps the best way to enjoy The Grand Palm is by gathering in the spacious backyard area! Between the main home and the carriage house, there are multiple outdoor living areas from which guests can choose. In addition to the porch areas attached to both homes, this property features an outdoor covered patio with a picnic table, an outdoor dining table with an umbrella, a circle of adirondack chairs, and plenty of space for guests to mingle. We stayed at the Grand Palm for our wedding weekend with our entire bridal party and it was absolutely perfect! The house is huge and we had the back cottage house too which allowed the bridesmaids and groomsmen the ability to get ready privately on the day of the wedding. The house was well-equipped with towels, soap, sheets, and everything we needed. The only downside is that it was a little further away from King St. than we thought but a quick uber got us to where we needed in no time.

Overall this property fit our needs, and was enjoyable. It could use a round of repairs to address some of the wear and tear it's gotten from being an AirBnb for so long. If you are sensitive to smells, I'd encourage you to request that they not spray the rooms with room spray before your visit. The first two days were quite overpowering with the amount of synthetic room spray that they applied to the rooms and directly to the bed linens. By the third day, much of it cleared away, but we did wash our bed linens to get rid of the scent too.

This home fit our needs for 11 adults 2 toddlers and 2 infants! it is large and spacious but also cozy for our family vacation. although it is located downtown it is not in walking distance to the sites and fun of historic downtown, we had to drive. There is only 3 parking spaces for this house so be prepared. When it rains the dirt driveway in front of the house floods so please only park at the designated paved driveway. Mosquitoes are rampant so pack repellent. The fridge has an ice maker and water combo but doesn't work so bring ice if you need it. Our trip to Charleston was great, the house served its need, was clean and charming. Leaving only 3 stars due to the trash cans being overfilled when we came and was infested with flies that ended up entering the home and we couldn't get rid of them the entire trip. Also Mosquitoes kept entering the home as well, worse upstairs then downstairs in the main house, and lack of accessibility to historic downtown without having to drive.
